Latex covered 'walk in bed'

The bed started life as a plan for a conventional walk in bed with no decision on covering made. It seemed obvious that latex rubber would be an excellent covering (the feel, look and smell of that much latex is mmmmm) so research on sourcing was carried out. The BEST place that we could find was 4D rubber, so 10m of 0.63mm black rubber was purchased. This was then bonded (another research task- find an appropriate adhesive) to four timber/MDF sections. These sections were then bolted together to create the finished bed 'platform'. In order to increase 'functionality', 10 very solid steel fixings (3 with chains) were added.

Each timber section is covered with a single piece of rubber, so there are no visible joins in the covering. The sections are held together using 3" or 4" bolts (1, 2 or 3 depending on the joint). This makes it VERY strong. All edges have been rounded- so no sharp edges to damage the rubber or US!

Restraint fixings have been added at various positions on the frame. These are made from galvanised steel rings and washers, and chrome plated steel housings. The housings protect the rubber from any metal work that may come in contact with it.

The use of attached chains is really only a novelty and for 'looks', but are functional too. Each of the fixings are mounted on 6" X 2" timbers- they dont move!
